This small development of four houses is located on the site of the former beehives works of Steel and Brodie in Wormit, Fife.
The site consisted of a number of dilapidated brick and timber buildings which were unsuitable for conversion. MWP felt it was important that the former use of the site should be reflected in the design language of the new houses.
Brick from Errol brickworks which were baked in beehive kilns
Recyled newspaper insulation, solar panels, lime based render, clay tile roofs, argon filled double glazing and double garages were included as standard in all houses.
Interiors were made special with high grade oak flooring, German made kitchens, double height spaces and folding walls. Opaque glass block walls were used as a honeycomb design feature on the narrow site.
MWP Architects hand carved beehive motif plaques incorporating an inscription by Homer which were then fired in the Brickworks and built into the boundary wall.
